Forthcoming events and plans:

With the cooperation of the JBP Society, Bingley Little Theatre is putting on one of Priestley’s lesser-known short plays ‘A Glass of Bitter.’ It will be performed in BLT’s 80-seat Studio on the evenings of Friday, November 28th, Saturday, Nov 29th, and Sunday, November 30th. A manned display about JB will be featured on each night.

The play illustrates the value of women in society, in this case a wife and mother who is taken for granted, before she takes action to rectify matters. Tickets can be purchased by following this link:https://www.bingleyartscentre.co.uk/events/blt-studio-wool-city

* On a similar theme, the JBP Society is trying to interest a theatre to put on another of JB’s lesser-known plays ‘Mother’s Day’. It may be too ambitious to have it put on in June, 2026, in which case it may have to be near Mother’s Day proper the following year.

2027 is also the hundredth anniversary of Priestley’s first works of note, ‘Benighted’ -  later made into the film ‘The Old Dark House’ - and ‘Adam in Moonlight’. We are hoping to mark this centenary in some way. Suggestions and venues gratefully received.

* Looking further ahead, 2029 is the centenary of ‘Good Companions’,  JB’s first major breakthrough as a major writer/playwright. Members are encouraged to make suggestions about how and where to celebrate this milestone.

* The Society is also exploring putting on an event linking JB and Charles Dickens, whom Priestley admired, though not uncritically. Watch this space.
